Development cooperation

We promote decent livelihoods, participation and reconciliation in Eastern Europe and East Africa.

A decent life for everyone

Our development cooperation focuses on reducing poverty and inequality in partnership with local communities. We develop solutions to ensure that even the most vulnerable people are better able to assert their rights and live a life of dignity.

We implement our development cooperation programme with programme support from the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland. The programme focuses geographically on East Africa and the wider Eastern European region.

The strength of partnerships

We always work in partnership with local NGOs and support mutual learning so that all parties involved are better able to achieve long-term change.

Supporting civil society is important to us because NGOs play an vital role in promoting and sustaining peace, human rights and democracy.

Development Cooperation Results

Development cooperation brings lasting change

The results reports of the Deaconess Foundation’s development cooperation programme demonstrate how the programme has improved the wellbeing and livelihood opportunities of people in vulnerable situations.

“Overall, the programme has strengthened the ability of the most vulnerable people to influence their own lives and their societies. At the same time, local organisations have strengthened their position as advocates for their communities and as builders of social change,” says Anca Enache, head of international work at the Deaconess Foundation.
